Both personally, and in the way they manage their hotel, owners Christine and Gerd Schlenzka typify the avant gard Berlin style that permeates the city's culture, especially its art and architecture. They are tuned to what's happening and enjoy directing guests to off-beat art exhibits, interesting shops, and thier latest restaurant finds. It is therefore no surpise that they have built a sophisticated, loyal clientele from throughout the world. Light and airy guest rooms in the prewar building have hardwood floors, heigh-cellings, and tall windows. Furnishings and art have been carefully chosen by Frau Schlenzka. Teh pleasant common room, with its Berlin skyline view, is a cheery sopt for the ample breakfast buffet, or to end the day with a beverage from the honor bar. The biehbourhood is full of good restaurants and interesting shops. This is a extraordinary family-run, city hotel.
A walk in a work of art. Located near the Kurfürstendamm avenue, Art Nouveau has many regular guests who return time and again, because they feel at home here ... There is an Italian room with a proper bed, a Japanese room with a black wooden tub as a bedside table, and a literary room with a black davenport. In the blue room, even the wastebaskets are blue, and the yellow room is almost always fully booked because it is so beautiful and bright. The bathrooms have been added without destroying the stucco ceilings. ... That is it. One feels at home on this hotel floor.
Young, cheeky, different: If you are looking for a comfortable alternative to the big chains, you may want to stay for a night at a young private hotel
The original elevator from 1905, with its wrought-iron door, my creak a bit, but it brings guests up safely to the fourth floor, where the reception is located. The small hotel in an apartment house, combining fresh, glowing colours with select antiques, stuccoed ceilings, and slightly squeaky wooden floors. Even the New York Times has discovered the "Art Hotel Nouveau".
